The Friends of Human Relations of Santa Clara County is a nonprofit organization founded in 1985 by Jim McEntee. (The Jim McEntee Legacy Committee is now completely incorporated into The Friends of Human Relations.) The mission of Friends today is to continue Jim’s vision and spirit in the community. The Friends board currently oversees the Jim McEntee Legacy Art Project, raises funds for the McEntee Legacy College Scholarship Awards, and serves as the fiscal agent for the County’s Office of Human Relations and the Institute for Nonviolence.
The Jim McEntee Memorial Scholarship Committee will be awarding 12 $1,500 scholarships in 2014.
Applications are due April 30.
The third annual Jim McEntee Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser is scheduled for Friday, April 11, 5:30-7:30 pm at MACLA, 510 South First Street, San Jose. Click here for a program flyer.
This year’s program will feature appetizers catered by Café Pomegranate, classical guitarist Jaime Ponce and our special guest, County Supervisor Cindy Chavez, speaking on the “Legacy of Jim McEntee”. Attendees will also have an opportunity to hear from previous student scholarship recipients and will again be able to preview the very best of contemporary Latino art from MACLA’s 16th Annual Auction which will be on display in the gallery.
Ten scholarships were awarded in May 2013 to students transferring to a four year college for the 2013-2014 school year.
